Yes, a deal has been struck, just seen this on the news. I shouldn’t think Prigozhin’s chances of being forgiven by Putin are very high! The silent breath of a wounded lion is more dangerous than its roar.

Sent to Belarus ?
Where he will fall out of a window, be found unresponsive in his bunk, or simply disappear….?
Just a matter if time.

Yes and just like that Putin's downfall has been averted. This was never about toppling Putin, this was a dispute over the management of the war in Ukraine and between mercenaries and the professional military. There will be changes in the military and how the war is conducted but there will be no coup, for now.

However, there are many in Russia who have been drawn out of the shadows by the events of the past 24 hours who may now fear having exposed themselves as not completely loyal to the Motherland. It will take longer to restore calm and there is still a struggle to prevent others wanting to keep the show rolling.

It will also be important to find out who, if anyone, was pulling Prigozhin's strings, the betting markets have opened with the CIA and Zelenskyy top of the list.

On the tactical front, several thousand Wagner troops have been able to move from the south and can now be redeployed where they may be more useful in confronting Ukraine's Counter Offensive.

The war will go on, at least for several more months.

From Austrailia's ABC:

from Saturday

President Vladimir Putin has vowed on Saturday to defend Russia against an armed rebellion by mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, who led his troops out of Ukraine and into a key city south of Moscow.

Key points:Mr Prigozhin accused the Russian military leadership of killing a huge number of his fighters in an air strikeHe vowed to punish them, stating that this was not a military coup but "a march of justice" The Kremlin scrambled to tighten security as it accused Mr Prigozhin of armed mutiny

The uprising, which Mr Putin called "a stab in the back", was the biggest threat to his leadership in over two decades in power.

The private army led by Mr Prigozhin appeared to control the military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don, a city over 1,000 kilometres south of Moscow that runs Russian offensive operations in Ukraine, Britain’s Ministry of Defence said.

As the fast-moving events unfolded in Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow is suffering "full-scale weakness" and that Kyiv was protecting Europe from "the spread of Russian evil and chaos".

In his address, Mr Putin called the actions by Mr Prigozhin, whom he did not mention by name, a "betrayal" and "treason".

"All those who prepared the rebellion will suffer inevitable punishment," Mr Putin said.

"The armed forces and other government agencies have received the necessary orders."

Sunday ABC:

It's clear that Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to launch a full-scale war against Ukraine has backfired catastrophically.

His plan to seize Kyiv within a few days in February last year was a grotesque folly that has had a disastrous impact on Russia and may end up leading to his own downfall.

More than 200,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded, his economy has been hit by global sanctions and many of Russia's best and brightest have left the country.

Now he has faced a mutiny from an angry man who has his own private army of at least 10,000 battle-hardened soldiers. While the rebellion has been defused for now, there's no doubt it has eroded Putin's authority.

For the sake of Putin's war, Russia's citizens have had to sacrifice personal freedoms, economic prosperity and now face civil unrest. Many must be asking themselves what is the point of the 70-year-old remaining as president if he can no longer guarantee their security?

Putin has been in power for 23 years and has never looked more vulnerable than in the past 24 hours and it's all down to two of his own creations – the war in Ukraine and the ascent of Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin.
