I was 18 in 1948 during post war years when we were still on rations and still being issued with clothing coupons.
I got engaged to my fiancee the same year while he was still doing his National Service in the RAF.

He could not afford an engagement ring but he made me a lovely brooch that I still have which is now 73 years old and worn on special days or dates that meant something to us. Hubbby died in 2016 in our 67th year of marriage.

IF there is a story section on here and if any of you are interested about things that happened years ago I will put the tale up about the brooch plus with a bit of luck a photo of it. .

At 18, I was recovering from an operation. The war had ended, on August 15th 1945 & I was still 3 weeks away
from my 18th birthday. A brown letter had arrived later from the R.A.F. report to -- (my calling up papers)
