Growing up, we were all subjected to entertainers or entertainment styles that our parents loved, and we didn't! My parents, for example, loved "Big Band" style music and "Crooner"-type singers, while I preferred "Rock 'n' Roll." Who were some entertainers or entertainment formats favored by your parents you could have done nicely without? :S

Good topic.I am sure there are loads.

My mother was into the Busby Berkeley musicals with songs like Lullaby Of Broadway.

As a teenager I wasn't impressed.

Morcambe and Wise, Frankie Howard, Benny Hill.... the Saturday night TV crowd.
Mind you, I don’t see what people find funny about Ant and Dec.
It’s easy to stay with the crowd, it takes courage to stand alone.

This brought back sokme memories for me. Our Grandmother lived with us, and she loved Ken Dodd, said he could sing like an angel. He did have a really lovely singing voice, but she hated Benny Hill, whom she called a "Dirty old man". chuckling here at memories.........

I remember bouquet of barbed wire which was, at the time, ground breaking because it touched on taboo subjects.

Quatermass, terrified me I used to hide behind my dads chair!
I think, if you have enough inner resources, then you can live in isolation for long periods of time and not feel diminished by it.

My mother had to watch "Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians" on New Years Eve, whereas I would have much preferred seeing Dick Clark usher in the New Year. She also would watch Lawrence Welk, and idolized Dean Martin. The "Rat Pack" group of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr. who reached their heyday in the 1960's were her version of wild stuff... :S

My mother loved that God awful Country music. Back then, it was called Country and Western music. She always watched those silly soap operas, and read those romance magazines. She referred to the music that my elder sister and I listened to as,
"jump 'n jive".
