The need to be held when times are tough, the need to be kissed when the mood is low, the wanting ton walk holding hands, all never diminish with the ageing process.

None of that needed here. I'm very self-sufficient and having been through all the marriage malarkey before there's no reason now to have a woman in my life. It would add nothing I need, that's for sure. Doubtless many women feel the same about men. :D

Before meeting my wife I had both platonic and "relationship" female friends, I came to realise that I enjoyed and even needed female company - it didn't need to involve kissing, cuddling, etc I just enjoyed their company.

But each of us are different and can have different views at different times of their life. I have a number of friends who are entirely happy without a relationship, it doesn't mean that they are lonely and have no friends of the opposite sex.

It's the "Older" bit. That's the worm in the woodpile.
In our idiomatic halcyon days. Couples pair, by whatever means. Grow and compromise together, through how life presents itself.
Older to one, may not be older to another.
But invariably each would have accumulated a shaped persona from earlier experiences, That however desirable, to reform another relationship later in life. Tends to lurk within.
Often by comparison. And without the earlier absorbed nuances, successfully embraced together.
Within both Venus and Mars. >> You can't teach an old Dog/Kitten New Tricks. Unless >> Extraordinarily Fortunate.
For those who cherish the companionship of the opposite gender. Generally achieved, to use the contemporary term.
