Just been watching a TV programme (UK) concerning scammers. Apparently scammers are out in force over the Christmas period - i had four in the last couple of days, all via email, and several on the phone both mobile and landline.

I never click on links sent by email, but instead, if i'm not sure, will go to the official website of the company the email "claims" to be from.
Some of these emails are very clever, and others are obvious scams - i'm sure i'll receive many more in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

I think a suitable name for these people should be scummers instead of scammers.

Had one yesterday some clown texting the wife, with the old your parcel has a £1,85 charge on it please ring this number lol

Good work Vienna for highlighting these scumbags and their tricks.

These people are always coming up with innovative ways to separate us from our money. These are the classic phishing techniques of bombarding people with emails, text messages or phone calls. Even if only a small percentage of people fall for it, they win.

Yup...just received a text from Canada Post..... If they can't deliver a parcel, they leave a note on my mailbox--they don't text me.

Pity we have to be constantly vigilant.

I have a friend who has fallen for at least two scams that I know of and would have fallen for a third had I not been there to tell her not to trust every email that comes into her inbox. She isn't tech savvy and my advice to her is trust nothing--double check everything.

Not specifically a Christmas scam, but certainly one of the worst I’ve seen...

I just did something I vowed I would never do...opened a link in a suspicious e-mail which I thought was from paypal. When I checked my files, something had been downloaded but it seemed to be empty. Spyware, I suppose.
I think I've got rid of it now. One of the advantages of using a Chromebook is that it is very limited in what it will download.

Beware of communications purportedly from 'Microsoft'.... it's probably scammers at work. they can be very convincing but don't be fooled.

My yahoo mail rejects emails that have the smell of a scam , they go directly to junk .
I never open the emails that supposedly come from my bank.
In fact I rarely open anything I’m not expecting.
I no longer use a landline as it had a problem with cold calls , so far my mobile phone has managed to stayed free of spam rubbish.

I regularly get spam calls on my cell (mobile) phone. My provider generally does a good job at detecting them and labeling them as “Potential Spam”. Several do get past their filter, but I never answer calls from unknown numbers anyway.
