0151 7050126 . A woman with a Liverpool accent said she was checking up on a claim I had made for a recent accident to see if the payment had gone through properly. Quick thinking and suspecting a scam I asked her who she thought she was speaking to. She didn't know my name, only had my phone number. I had not made an accident claim. I imagine if I had the next step would have been to ask for my bank details.
The number from which she called is rated as negative and has a nuisance warning. Beware.

I don't answer my landline or mobile to any number I don't recognise. I've and answer machine on both and if it is important, the person will leave a message.

I do have caller ID so I check the numbers on who-called.co.uk and if it is a nuisance call I then report it to ico.org.uk or if it is an internet scam to www.actionfraud.police.uk

I don't get a lot of them nowadays so it must be working.

Might want to consider removing yourself from The Open Register if you have not already done so. Probulary won't eliminate the more persistant scammers, but at the very least it should dramatically cut down the nuisance cold calling from legitimate companies.

You can usually block numbers yourself,if this is not possible, phone your telephone company, explain what is happening, ask them to block them for you.

Like Esbeth I too have caller ID. People have to say who they are, I then have the ability to answer or send it to messages.

So much better now I don't get any nuisance phone calls.

I'm ex directory and also on TPS - Telephone Preference Service.

Sorry I don't have caller ID but my phone has the last umpteen numbers in it. Caller ID costs money and I'm Scottish.
