Was so surprised to see this thread again! Was the first thread I wrote on Buzz awhile after I joined.

Canada has had it's lion share of disasters and terrible incidents over the last couple of years and quite often we have had threads about these on the forum.

What I would like to say though, and why I am very proud to be Canadian, is that every time something happens we pull together as a country, regardless of our political views, religious views or social standing we unite as a country - (later we can go back to arguing about issues). Across Canada we put out hockey sticks for Humboldt, Saskatchewan after their bus accident and followed that with monetary donations (and from other countries as well); when we had to bury police officers killed in the line of duty, we watched it live on TV and mourned together. And when British Columbia was on fire the last two summers firefighters got on planes across Canada to join in the fight.

Thanks for your kind thoughts about Canada and sorry the response is so long. If there is not one "sorry" in my response I would not be Canadian.

I loved the "bromance" between President Obama and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and their hockey jokes back and forth. I loved in 2016, when President Obama spoke at the Canadian Parliament. He mentioned how "we Americans too celebrate the life and career of the late great Mr Hockey, Gordie Howe." Of course, everyone in Parliament stood and applauded. Then when the applause abated, President Obama zapped them with the punch line, "Just like Canadians can celebrate the fact that American teams have won the Stanley Cup, more often than Canadian teams!"

The Canadians, of course, knew that it was just a friendly tease between two friends. I love watching that speech, because after the President finished, there were chants of "4 more years! 4 more years!" through out the Canadian Parliament.

Yes, we Americans, fully understand that there are Canadian players on those Americans teams. We just don't acknowledge it in public. Nor do we talk about it.

Thank you for your views on Canada, Morgeno1 --- Yonge Street is a long street, I have walked part of it,
from Eglinton to Front Street and back, during one of my trips to Toronto --- interesting shops.and buildings,
along the way --- The New Library on Yonge Street, had just opened.
