If someone was told to "be a leader and not a follower"..
wouldn’t they become a follower by following this advice. ?

No, because if they were 'told' to be a leader, as you put it, they would just be carrying out an instruction, not following advice.

I can see your point.

They would momentarily become a follower in order to become a leader.

but is it.. momentarily..
s/he he had to *follow some rules to get to this point..
else s/he would be discredited of course..
so, demonstrating s/he is a follower.. ??

s/he does have to the follow the rules of the position.. lol
and if s/he opts to change them..
is it because s/he is listening to.. following .. the needs of..

NOTE: " THIS IS A SILLY POST.
NOT A QUESTION OF AUTHORITY.. LOL
i know we need some one who is getting paid to listening to someone else, to guide us.. lol hahah

It is essential to understand that leadership and followership are complementary to each other. A leader is no one without their followers and a follower is no one without a leader. There are many common qualities that leaders and followers have to have when working together to accomplish something, a leader would have at one time been a good follower. few people understand that to be a good leader, you first need to be a great follower. As Aristotle said, "He who cannot be a good follower, cannot be a good leader." ... They judiciously choose who they follow and make followership part of their education.

An excellent question,
