Say yes if you agree. Say nah if nah. I’ve done no research however, I’m convinced carpeting one’s home is a huge mistake! Nothing but filth, germs and disease trapped deep within. Think they’re clean? Think again. Never again I say. Throw rugs only. Then I can take them out and clean and disinfect them proper. You can thank me now or later for this thread. (No long hair is filthy remarks either. Lol.)

Yes, agreed.

Horribly unhealthy, riddled with bugs and germs and they put tiny fibres in the air.

Laminate flooring throughout for me personally. Hard wearing, easy to clean, easy to wipe/wash, easy to install.

Hence we have a carpet shampooer which washes and cleans carpets, We also don't walk around the house with the shoes on we have worn outside. My Wife vacuums every day we have to we have a six year old who is as clumsy as his mother, Biscuits toast and other things regularly see the carpets face to face
We have wooden flooring in our living room which also gets cleaned regualrly.
I think it depends on carpets if you buy cheap fluffy rubbish they fall apart quickly if you buy decent ones they will last a long time if cleaned and looked after correctly. I like carpets I wouldn't want hard flooring all through especially in the bedrooms I want comfort.
Our bedroom has a white carpet which we have had down for about 5 years and it is still like new. Look after them I can't see a problem.

Until recently I would agree partially with Bruce. Looks are deceiving I’ve found out. I’ve done all those things mentioned although I do have dogs. It is possible I wasn’t doing the cleaning properly however, I’m positive you cannot possibly get it all. I use my little commuter’s floor mats as an example. I can clean and hose them out forever it seems. The brown just keeps on flowing. Yuck. I can only imagine what my carpets have trapped in them. Next round will be different, that’s for sure.

Any germs or diseases trapped within my carpets have yet to affect me.

I agree, you cant get every bit of dirt out - you cant get every bit of dirt out of tile grout or between floorboards either - but thats ok, Im not trying to live in a sterile bubble.

Like that old saying: clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy.

We found when we first moved in here and I cleaned the carpets which were down the water I emptied out was filthy and I mean brown like I had sucked up mud! Think they must have worn the outside shoes a lot in the house but they didn't look that dirty on first impression.
Now we have different ones and when we do get the carpet shampooer out the water is quite clean but I think that has to do with our vacuum is a Dyson and it sucks very well so I think most the dust which can settle goes up there, what goes up the cleaner is what kids have dropped on the floor.
No pets so we don't have that problem, well apart from kids
