Every so often, maybe once a year I suffer from dzzy spells when ........well doing anything really. They just come on.

I know they're nothing to worry about but they're not nice and can make me feel sick. It's a balance thing. But anyway I've been told it's because little crystals get stuck in your inner ear. I know how to get rid of them myself now but if they're very persistent I go to see "my dizzy guy" as I call him.

He puts a black mask over your eyes and you can't see anything but he can see your eyes moving on a computer.....THEN he seems to shake my head all over the place......(I always try to go on a bad hair day as it makes no difference haha)

But on a more serious note my sister started suffering with Menieres (you may have to look up this disease) oh crikey it was awful. They sent her home from work via taxi from London Bridge to West Sussex. But she lives alone and it's awful being dizzy so I went down for support and help her get through it, although there's not much anyone can do but be there. She went to hospital and had a stint placed in her ear and luckily that seems to have worked....thank god.....she lost so much weight during that time.
I told her I would have paid for her to go private if she had to be on a waiting list, but as luck would have it she was seen very quickly. I'd never heard of Menieres before......there's some strange illnesses around. Trouble with Menieres is you look ok.

Menieres Disease is very unpleasant:( and surgery is rare...your sister must have had the stent inserted due to poor drainage which is one of the causes of Menieres of which there are many.

Under the moon no doubt while holding a lovely glass of red and staring into the eyes of a tall dark stranger. :)

No, then to be serious, I also experience these "attacks", I had a rather severe one two days ago, fortunately they seem to come on very late at night so now I can just take some seasickness/anti nausea medicine and go to bed and I'm OK in the morning, well better. I've had the doctor look at it and he's so far non committal as to the cause.

The crystals have been mentioned so was told to practice the Epley maneuver but I find that rather difficult to do alone. I saw a hearing specialist who suggested it was associated with my gradual hearing loss on one side and their cure was a very, very expensive set of hearing aids. I'm due to go back to doctor for a more in depth examination, just have to make the appointment. Still all in all not very pleasant and frustrating as I've had to put off a few jobs that require working at heights.

Humorously, in my view, as I found out when I had the first attack a few months ago and decided to drive my self to the A&E, I feel better when driving than when standing still, but I can't just take to the streets every time a episode comes on. Since I've mentioned it to some friend it seems it's not an uncommon event with several locals mentioning their wobbly boot syndrome. Hope all feel better and if a miracle cure is found someone let us know.

My first major attack of dizziness and tinnitus came suddenly about 16 years ago.. The doctors were puzzled so they did a hearing test and found out I had a major hearing loss in my right ear. Hearing loss is so gradual, it is barely noticeable, especially when the other ear is not affected. I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease. The only treatment that was offered was the medication, Meclizine, for the dizziness, as needed. The attacks would come without warning. It wasn't long before the medicine back-fired. In very small print in the literature it read that a side symptom may be "dizziness." I eventually stopped using it altogether.

The symptoms disappeared except for the hearing loss. Years down the road I was told that maybe this was not Meniere's Disease but a "viral infection." I guess Doctors may 'practice" medicine but cannot always hit the nail on the head, as far as correct diagnosis is concerned. The dizziness and tinnitus went away. I wear a hearing aid in one ear. So far, so good!
