Do you always toast your buns Jane?

I would always toast them for breakfast, but not tea time..

We haven't had hot cross buns for a long time. It might be worth indulging this year. Not sure where from though as there are numerous outlets selling them.

Its very hit and miss if I can buy HXB's here in southern Spain.
Both Lidl and Aldi do not stock them ... but we do have an Overseas 'Icelands' and The Food Co .... which mirrors The Food Warehouse in UK.
Last year they were 2.99 euro for 4 BUT I found a small independent bakery that made them and bought a bulk order of 48 for 50c each. Bargain as they were double the size, full of fruit and very tasty.
Unfortunately the couple running the bakery have had to retire through ill health ...... so I am on the search again.

PS ... not all of the 48 buns were for me!!! ... I help run one of the branches of The Royal British Legion here in Spain and we always make sure that our members have a buttered Hot Cross Bun on Good Friday as a little treat ..... just after the Easter Bonnet competition!!!!!

We had the M&S ones the other day and yes toasted with butter they were divine.

We also had some from Tesco I think or Asda (not sure the wife picked them up when out) and I can only go on my own taste but they were no where near as good as M&S ones.
We all agreed that in our house.
Price wise it is a couple of pennies difference so M&S it is for us, well on those anyway.

Hot Cross Buns can be successfully frozen but upon thawing you only have a limited amount of time to prepare and consume them before they dry out, the freezing process will take some of the moisture out of them in any event and while still quite palatable they never taste as good as fresh.

Frozen buns? Yup you can freeze your buns no problem....I've only done it twice and on both occasions it was my own fault and I was cross with myself,

I freeze my buns on a regular basis - I find it best to slice them in half before sealing them in a ziplock bag and freezing them.
Whenever I fancy a hot fruity bun, I can take one out and pop it in the toaster.

It works for all fruit breads - teacakes, rich fruit buns and hot cross buns. smile.png
