My husband went to GP surgery to see the nurse for result of routine blood test and was told he had diabetes. This is a couple of years ago now. She said he couldn't eat this and he couldn't eat that, and he came home so confused as to not knowing what he could in fact eat.
I went online, searching as I knew nothing really about diabetes, only that he shouldn't have sugar. I found he couldn't also have much carbohydrate.
He drove me to Tescos, and I honestly thought there would be a shelf of food for diabetics there.........sugar free jelly about all.
I went to the Pharmacy counter there, and asked about what he could eat.
The lady said the dietician from the big city hospital was there at the moment would I like to speak with her? Wow would I.......
She said "Well he can have a cooked meat sandwich".......
I bought some cooked meat from that counter and took it to him in the car, as he had missed a meal, not good. He ate it from the packet, as I was still so very worried about carbs too.
Well I worked out a diet, he must have a good breakfast, he had and still has 2 Shredded Wheat (not aditives in that), skimmed milk, and blueberries for sweetener. He doesn't take sugar in his tea, and doesn't like sweeteners.
He had and still has a banana and an orange for lunch.
He has a main meal in the evening, but little potato, Has cooked meat and vegetables.
He lost 3 stone in a couple of months. Our GP then said "You are not diabetic now, and you have done it yourself and I am delighted"
I don't know if that helps anyone here, I hope it will.
I also know, that drinking 2 cupsful of Chamomile tea a day, helps regulate diabetes.
