Priti Patel has caused a stir by insisting that stopping for a chat on the street constitutes “mingling” and is thus banned under the new “rule of six” regulations introduced by the Government on Monday.

The Home Secretary told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that “people coming together”, even briefly on the street, would breach the rule.

So don’t you dare say hello to anyone on the street! This is getting ridiculous....

But surely PP is talking about chatting in groups of more than 6 people?

If so then she's presumably right. The activity doesn't really factor. Chatting, eating, drinking, walking, playing, sunbathing, lounging in the park etc etc. More than 6 is not within the rule.

Don't get me wrong, I think the rule is a farce but I feel sure PP is talking about more than 6 people.

Hope you don't live next door to Priti, Sirfurry.
She said she would report her neighbours if she saw them do it...
Nice lady.

Ms Patel said that two families of four stopping for a chat on the way to the park was "absolutely mingling".

2 x 4 = 8.....yes that's definitely more than the 'rule of 6'.
Happy to help.

But you can break the rule of six and "absolutely mingle" if you organize your own sports activity, for example football, netball, hockey, polo ( not too common a sport for most of us) .

You can even go shooting if you want to in groups of more than six would you believe?

So it is possible to "absolutely mingle" if you happen to be the sporty type.

Yes, as i said a few days ago, this rule of 6 only appears to apply if you're walking up the street or sitting in your own house. Grouse shooting (with up to 30 shooters) is allowed and other country pursuits plus all sporting events. BJ and Matt Hancock come up with this farce then have the cheek to tell us how many people can come in the house - anyone who follows this particular order is lost.

Crumbs nearly 4,000 confirmed cases today and that's with a two day lag due to how long it takes the tests to come through and also not everybody being able to get the tests, due to the volume requesting them. Wonder how many cases there actually is, there was 3,100 yesterday.

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Currently there's 901 in hospital
115 of them are on ventilators
141 were admitted today

Well one assumes that if they are doing more testing then consequently their numbers are forced to go up. Cases that they were previously unaware of are suddenly on the radar. No big deal TBH.

901 hospitalised seems a tiny number to me personally. 67 million people in the UK so it's 0.0013%

I'm mindful also that they're only testing the sick people with symptoms rather than everybody so the true number of COVID cases is actually many multiples of that 4000. Scientists and university professors believe the actual number of cases is more than 10 times the confirmed number of cases so if there are 4000 new confirmed cases that would suggest there are approx. 40,000 or more in reality, the vast majority of which either have no symptoms at all or have mild symptoms that won't result in them reporting their illness. If we have less than 1000 hospitalised then we must be doing very well.

Obtained from: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8748157...es-slash-R-rate.html

Britain does not have herd immunity from coronavirus and must work to keep the R rate below one, top Government scientists warn in newly released meeting minutes.

Blood tests revealed immunity was as low as six per cent in the UK by September 3, with research suggesting this may fall as those that have suffered from the virus can be re-infected.

Natural defences against the disease are also not widespread, with the former hotspot London thought to have higher rates of protection than the rest of the country.
