We Planted 316 trees of various species endemic to the area.
The ground was compacted clay type soil. Even after winter and a very heavy downpour yesterday.
Hard work indeed.
3 hours, less morning tea. About 16 volunteers were there.
Not much to see because they are about 1 year old seedings.

How long does it take before the trees grow?

The trees we planted will reach 12' in about 3 - 4 years.
Some will reach 120 feet over 15 years

Good job.

I've planted about 5000 pine trees the last five years. And yes it is labor intensive if you do it by hand.

I use a post hole digger now and it is alot easier.

When I was a tree planter long ago, for major lumber companies, we planted 2,000 trees per person per day - for 6 inch saplings, a bit less for bigger ones. Season started end of november (rainy season) and trying to beat the snow, we started as high up the mountains as possible - just below the snow line. So by definition we worked in freezing rain most of the time.
That was tree planting, the posts above is what we called tree gardening.
After a season up in the mountains planting trees, the next year Mt St. Helens blew up and covered most of the trees we planted.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass ... it's about learning to dance in the rain!
