I took my early morning coffee out into the garden this morning about 6am. Just sitting there enjoying the peace and quiet before the commuter traffic started up (I live near a main road)

There is a bushy tree close to where I sit and have coffee and I hang my bird feeder in this tree, as well as some dried sunflower seed heads. I suddenly noticed that there was an unusual bird feeding from one of the dried sunflower heads. It was a Great Spotted woodpecker. I've never had one in my garden before.....what a great way to start the day.smile.png

You lay down with dogs, you risk getting fleas.

I probably should mention that the photo was'nt taken by me. I just wanted to put a picture of a Great Spotted woodpecker on my post for anyone who hadn't seen one before....so I borrowed it from the internet.

Rosie - I didn't ever think I would see one in my garden either, as I am very close to a main road here and this is not their normal habitat. I think maybe he was a bit lost and was just having a 'pit stop' in my garden when he saw the sunflower heads hanging in the tree.
