Which is a conundrum, good for the Monarch Butterflies who are now listed as endangered but inconvenient for farmers and others who graze stock as it is very toxic if consumed.

There has been a 99.9% decline in the Monarch Butterfly population in the western US and a 85% decline in the east. The widespread removal of milkweed is a significant factor in this decline.


There surely is no reasonable decline of milkweed on my property. Perhaps pesticides have more to do with the eradication of the Monarch Butterflies. I will post a sign... Monarch Butterflies are welcome...

However ...my invitation to the Monarch Butterflies just won't be enough...

Monarchs face many threats and stressors that result in declining populations in both the eastern and western regions of their North American range. The biggest impacts come from the loss of habitat for breeding, migrating, and overwintering.

This year the UK had people counting all the butterflies they saw, and there were less this year than ever before. I don't know why.
