A lot nicer in the warmer months - and a fish and chip kiosk that is open then as well :)

I am informed that the cliff lift is at Saltburn not Redcar !!

Redcar is a bit of a stretch of the imagination, as it is pretty flat as a town & promenade/seafront.

It's actually Saltburn by the Sea, a few miles to the south of Redcar.

Yes that's what my title and text said - ....along the pier at Saltburn and up the vertical promenade at Redcar.... - I never said the funicular was at Redcar.

Interesting photos, thanks for sharing them, GD53.

I spent a lot of my childhood in that area and still have family there, so the pier and funicular railway up Saltburn cliff is a very familiar and enjoyable walk for me,
I lived in a grotty bedsit in an old seafront house in Redcar when I first left home - I thought Redcar was a bit rough and downbeat then but it is interesting to see how they have developed the sea front in recent years - that vertical pier looks interesting but not very elegant or attractive - perhaps it looks better in real life, so I’m going to add it to my list of places to visit when the better weather comes.
