The Blacksmith

Here’s how it was in Meon Hampshire
Before the age of Technology
That today we all know
The Village Smithy was a popular man
An artist in many skills
Villagers came with many requests
And most of them he fulfills
This was the time of true Horse Power
Pulling a plough, a cart or a dray
That was the form of transport then
So different from today
The Blacksmith was the man to shoe a horse
Or mend the wheel of a cart
Or weld or shape in metal
Any replacement part
He was also the friend of the Riders
When their mounts had a very loose shoe
Because they knew that the Smithy
Would know exactly what to do
But he also dealt with gardening tools
And household implements and knives
That’s why in those days the Village Blacksmith
Was an important part of their lives
