Criccieth Castle or Castell Goch

The Original Castle was built by the Normans
In the years 1081
For the protection of Cardiff nearby
And abandoned not long after it was begun
A new building constructed in 1267
Designed by Gilbert de Clare
The Castle was again destroyed in Welsh Rebellion
And ruins acquired by John Stuart 3rd Earl of Bute
William Burges was employed to rebuild the Castle again
But before completion in 1881 he died
And it took his remaining workers 10 years
To finish and decorate the inside
The Earl of Bute introduced wine making
With a vineyard making the Castle astute
Until the W W 1 occurred in 1914
And in 1950 it passed to Grandson 5th Earl of Bute
Who after some consultation handed it to Cadw
The Welsh Heritage agency of the state repute

Castell Coch (red castle), looks like a fairy tale castle. There are rumours that there are tunnels under it, to Cardiff Castle.. (castell Caerdydd). The Earl of Bute "seat" is up just off the coast of West Scotland on the Isle of Bute. I don't know which king gave that family all the land they own in South Wales. Also they used to have a penny for every ton of coal that went out of Cardiff docks. They were once the richest family in Europe.

Sorry to contradict you, Shrubby, but Criccieth Castle is up in North Wales not down South.
