Blakeney

Now here’s a part of Norfolk
That I know reasonably well
For some years back in the 50’s
I lived nearby for a spell
I remember in 1953
When the whole area was ravaged by the Sea
Much of East Anglia was flooded
Causing so much tragedy
We helped to repair the Sea Defence
So people could return to their homes
Recovering what they could from the damage
In some cases even their garden gnomes
But once again the area gained popularity
As a venue to spend some time of leisure
Walking , Boating or Watching Birds
Whatever suits your pleasure
For Blakeney is known for it’s protected Bird life
Part of the National Trust
There’s also a Friary from the Domesday Book
So a visit is really a must
There’s a Windmill here at Blakeney
And another at nearby Cley by the sea
An ideal place to spend your time
With plenty of variety
There’s a thing I forgot to menion
There’s and Inlet from the Sea
Providing fresh water every tide
A place of pure tranquillity

We spent many happy holidays in Blakeney each year at the same holiday cottage. It’s such an interesting place.
Cley Next The Sea is one of my favourite places. A great place for painting. The light there is extraordinary. There is a lovely little shop there called Picnic Fayre which sells delicious food.
Thank you, Shrubby.
