Away back in September,
With your holidays all spent,
The Tesco staff are busy,
Filling shelves up with resent.

Out first, come all the Christmas cards,
Then the biscuits, in a tin.
Cheese crackers and some walnuts,
That are tempting you to sin.

Christmas music is the next thing,
Trying to drive you quite insane.
And then you start your humming,
As your head thumps, hard with pain.

In the few months that will follow,
Advent calendars appear.
Cheapie chocolate lurks behind the doors,
Things all shaped like red-nosed deer.

Several hours have now gone missing,
Wrapping presents, yes it sucks.
Keep the Gaviscon at the ready,
To help rid you of reflux.

Drunk relatives at your table,
X Factor’s number one.
People arguing in the kitchen,
Not going to be outdone.

Mince pies are in abundance,
Make you pile on excess pounds.
Too much of Christmas pudding,
Now your tummy’s making sounds.

Repeats upon the telly,
‘Railway Children’ yet again.
Crappy jokes shoved in the crackers,
Provokes tension and some strain.

John Lewis ad. to haunt you,
Pulls tightly at heart-strings.
Crappy presents off a workmate,
Another of those things.

But please, no longer worry,
‘Cos after stopping Crimbly cheer.
By the thirteenth day of January.
Easter eggs will now be here.

Very good Mrs. Noodles. Around here, we would have St. Patrick’s items advertised first - but the Easter stuff wouldn’t be far behind.

Today the shops had obscenely large valentine cards with red padded hearts and insincere sentiments emblazoned upon them. Showy and cheap, conspicuous consumption at its tackiest.

We don't seem to have that much St.Patrick stuff here, well, not that I've noticed anyway.

I understand that St. Patrick’s Day is WAY more popular here than it is in Ireland.
