EASTER IS HERE
Poem written by Member fitzgarabaldi
Easter Buried – Easter Risen
I stood back in the shadows of the garden on that day
And watched the scenes enfold as he began to pray
He asked the three to watch as he made his final vows
This cup is far to heavy, but your will prevails right now
He truly prayed alone on that fatal night
Their souls perhaps were willing but their bodies just took flight
As Judas joined the others and gave his fatal kiss
The scriptures had been fulfilled, deserted;life dismissed
He was taken to the temple and the evidence was sort
Are you the son of God or has your soul been bought?
And then the cock crowed thrice and Peter wept with shame
Disowned the one who gave him life, his guilt was his own gain
His life hung in the balance as the crowd was urged to press
The choice was with Barabbas, murderer no less
But frenzy had taken all, they wanted purest blood
So the Lamb of God was chosen, on our future faith he stood
He was crowned and robed for death, spat on and struck with blows
Forced to carry cross to crucify, and cursed 'King save yourself, God knows'
They sat and watched his death draw near, until the ninth hour came
Some waiting for a miracle of prophets in his name
He breathed his last and cried out loud 'Eloi, Eloi lama sabachthani'
And the temple curtain rent in two was all that they could see
His body taken down was wrapped in linen shroud
And placed in tomb by Joseph for anointment by women proud
But when they came upon the tomb the stone was rolled away
The body gone, 'don't be dismayed, he's gone ahead this day'
He called upon those chosen few rebuked 'don't be afraid
The Christ has risen, preach the news the heavens will be praised'
