Bet you had Tex Mex not Mexican there is a big difference, many do not know that

Yes chili with meat If I ever order that I always ask for a small sample prior or will not order. People ruin chili getting it to spicy.

When I lived in Phoenix, there were the "gringo" Mexican restaurants (elaborate affairs festooned with pinatas and sombreros, strolling mariachi musicians, etc.) and the Mexican restaurants in neighborhoods populated by actual Mexican-Americans. I preferred the latter. The food was spicy, but unlike the tourist traps, they didn't go out of their way to burn your tongue and throat out.

I just wish they weren't so fond of sour cream. It was in everything, even a dollop in the soup. Apply the word "sour" to any other dairy product and you have a biohazard fit for the bin.
