Was that when he repeatedly failed to deny having described the Government’s Rwanda Policy as ‘batsh*t ’ ?
Apparently this is vulgar North American slang for completely mad or crazy.

Yes it was only a few hundred being sent over 5 years yet costing millions. A couple of boatloads.
The odds on anyone being sent there are so small that it certainly wouldn’t be a deterrent.
Who thought of such a crazy idea, was it Patel or Braverman?
Ironic they themselves are children of immigrants, talk about pulling the ladder up behind them!

It looks like that figure may have been revised - in Sunak's own words they are planning to 'fill the planes to Rwanda with asylum seekers'..

Could be much much more than a few hundred over five years - i can't find that information anywhere so far, but if you consider how many passengers you can get on a plane, and the frequency of the flights promised by Sunak, the figure is more likely to be in the thousands.

The comments by Sunak are nothing but political hyperbole and bluster, he knows that the scheme is impossible to fulfill, at least in any manner that would be lawful or cost effective.

The Conservatives plans for off-shoring Asylum seekers has been found unlawful at every level, most recently by a full bench of the Supreme Court. the Governments response has been to say they don't care what the law says they are going to attempt to do it regardless. This from a Government of a so called civilised and law abiding nation, though doing things declared illegal would not be the first time for this Government.

The cost alone is likely to sink the scheme, the most recent figure putting the cost in excess of 4 Billion pounds over 5 years, and that is to remove about than 6 months worth (24,000) of arrivals and would be double the cost of current arrangements.

This is political though as many Conservative Ministers and MPs have admitted, their already bleak re-election chance would evaporate if they aren't seen to be fulfilling at least this policy.

Listening to other MPs it seems you will have to get ready for the RN to be taking pot shots at rubber dingy's as they cross the Channel.

If we sent 500 on a plane at huge cost - 200 will be sent back anyway as they can only take 300

As Pop1 says they Rwandans, at this point, have only agreed to take 200, there is the assumption they will take more as those they get leave immigration detention in Rwanda, either legally, that is resettled or, more likely, attempt to return to the UK or another EU destination.

The people who come here in illegally in small boats are not allowed to work. It is possible that if given the opportunity to do some kind of work while waiting for their applications for asylum to be processed many would willingly do so.
( they have a long wait ahead of them as our applications processing system seems to have broken down ! )

There are asylum seekers near to where I live, stuck out here out in the countryside, who have been welcomed into a local walking group because they were bored, having nothing to do all day. They enjoy the exercise and like being included.

There was a programme on the news showing some were working Voluntary and improving their skills while waiting .
Still baffles me why they Carn't be put to work during this time ..

I suspect, if it is anything like down here, the Government don't want them showing that they can be law abiding, productive members of society. Makes it much harder to demonise them.

The answer is to speed up the claims process making it clear who can stay in the UK, and who can't, before allowing them to work.

I think it would be too easy for some employers to take advantage of asylum seekers otherwise.
