2021 is Census time.
Do you fill it in?
Do you chuck it in the bin?
Do you believe the info is used correctly?

I was of the understanding that you have to fill in a census form. it's the law ?

I think it is law that you fill it in or you could get fined £1000 but I do know some who refuse as they believe your information is sold on or easily available to anyone. They have never being fined yet.

Taking part in the census is a legal requirement with households facing fines of up to £1,000 if they do not participate or give false information.
Happy to help.

I was a census worker for our census in 2011, I was asked to be a district organiser for the upcoming one due this year but declined. Though it pays good money, it's just not worth the hassle, especially for the field workers who can face terrible abuse from those who don't like "big brother". You can find some strange people living in some very strange and out of the way places and we were told we must check every structure capable of being a residence, the definition was very broad. The first visit was easy as you just dropped the forms were they could be seen, picking them up was the "fun" part. All details were manually recorded, they have since moved to tablets and the forms can be filled out online if you don't like paper. Anyone not returning a form or completing online was reported, but the follow-up of that side was someone else's problem. Had a few threaten violence, including one with a shotgun who lived down a very long and desolate track. The local copper knew them and said he'd take care of them, don't know what happened, I never went back, never asked and was never told.

Yes, I think the info is used correctly - the population and demographic info is used to help with planning and determining the needs of local communities (so if folk don’t complete it, they can’t moan if the needs of their particular demographic aren’t being met by their government or council.)
The personal details are kept confidential for 100 years - and genealogists find the old ones very useful, when they are eventually released, for tracing family trees.

I think I completed my Census form online last time - I see the ONS are going to try to get even more online submissions this time round.
Step by step, one goes a long way.

  I haven't got one Lenny unless it is hiding under the disguise as something else.

I have to admit I have in the past basically forgot to send it off and sometimes an official comes to the house and asks for it or they don't. Only happened about 2-3 times in many years of it.
I appreciate what KayyGee said I have seen people be quite rude when answering the door to census workers and it is the BigBrother thing as I have heard people say What's it got do with you what I do or tell the government to mind their business.
Not a job I could do.
