A report from a Canadian patient's advocacy group today, saying that in Canada in the last 2 years, surgeons left behind (inside people) 550 pieces of of junk that should have been taken out when the surgery was completed

Happens far too often, with the surgical bits and pieces, medical negligence and malpractice lawyers abound.

I knew it happened now and again but I am shocked at those figures.

I know two ladies who had things left inside them after surgery. Quite shocking. Both had exhaustive follow up tests to find out what was wrong and why they were in pain.

All stats are suspect unless you know from what size the sample size is. 550 sounds like a high number until you Google Canadian inpatient surgeries by type.... and you see the hundreds of thousands of surgeries per year...

Now, medical professionals strive to never make such an error. ...........but its a rare occurrence....
