And Horizon Europe is €100 billion........it goes on, These are rolling projects, not one-offs and once you add all the peripherals into the total the amount is not as ‘flat’ as you would wish.

It would appear you're now complaining that the EU spend money on science and research.
The figure you quote is again spread over 7 years, and again would be still a fraction of similar US spending.
Byroney, I think secretly you're a fan of the EU, certainly the figures you've quoted today show it in good light.

Just a minute! Did I not read recently that in response to being chucked out of Galileo.....UK intends to run its own space/ satellite programme in competition to EU. So which ever way you look at it...the money is destined to " go up in smoke".... sovereignty in practice, fabulous! No doubt that £350m per week will be earmarked for the " squib " project!

If you mean the U.K. Space Agency that was founded in 2010 and is a Government Agency then you probably have. But it is not an ‘intention’. In its present form it has existed for eight years and before that it was the British National Space Centre.

What you read was a call to expand this already flourishing sector, not set up from scratch.

I don't understand this. If you stay in the EU you get access to the markets and have to follow their other rules. If you leave the EU and opt for EEA, you get access to the markets and have to follow most of the rules.

So, I am asking, what are the rules that would be omitted? For me, someone who knows little of how this works, it seems that there is only a basic change in abreviations......???

It is far more important to emphasize ethics rather than rules....Dyer

It always seemed logical as one of the richer states we'd be paying more, indeed subsidising and helping the poorer countries to raise their standard of living so that Europe is prosperous from East to West. It's a long term goal but one I personally agree with, as a rich country we should help those poorer than us. I'm sure that view is unpopular with many, as its a socialist view-point, but I'm all for it, as are many others across Europe.

An admirable ambition......

However I have today received, through ‘official’ channels, so no quibbling please, notice that the EU has allocated €16 billion ‘to help maintain and further enhance the EU’s leadership in space’.

A first-class way of standardising living standards across Europe...

For those of you who scour the EU’s website looking for budgetary information it is all there, somewhere!

Interesting. Could you send a link on that statistic?
16 billion is what, 10% of the total EU budget? Sounds like an amazingly high figure.
I must check for myself! Even if that figure is correct, it's still only about 30% of what the USA spends on space.

Thing is it's their own money. We are not a 'United States of Europe ' yet!
