Not sure what it is but honestly I just can't stand to watch Courtney on Coronation Street. The affair with Aadi is so boring - thank goodness I tape the episodes and use my fast forward button to get through.

I am an avid Coronation Street viewer but I can’t stand to watch Cassandra, Tyrone’s birth mother. I have watched Corrie since it first started but I think some of the latest plots are ridiculous.

I think around this time of year the soaps get a bit ridiculous.

They know the soap awards are coming up so they loose all rational continuity of story lines and compete with each other by introducing far fetched mini dramas in order to shock and awe.

Mostly failing badly.

I am really annoyed at the change of times recently introduced so they run later .... I'm thinking maybe that was so that they could have darker storylines and kids won't see them.

Shame really cos Corrie used to be a family programme for decades.

They also used to trailblaze by reflecting some things happening in society very well, but now it seems to be all about shock factor which isn't the same at all.

It's all about the viewing figures but I wouldn't be surprised if this year they dropped as dramatically as the awful quality of the actual drama.

There used to be an endearing element of comedy too but that seems to have completely disappeared.

Oh well ...

I don't like to ask but what exactly is 'Coronation Street' ? Apart from it being a 'street' that is!

It is a fictional strreet set in around Manchester,it started around Dec 1960.The main places in it are the Pub...The Rovers Return, and the knicker factory, where a lot of the characters work.Ithas had lots of good story lines over the years, including the one now running about one character who has Motor Neuron Disease.

We should mention we have a serial killer living amongst the residents at present, uncle Stephen Reid . Mind you, we had one before, remember Pat Phelan ? Many of Corrie’s male residents have been holed up in the ‘Big House’ for a period of time - too many to count, not forgetting some of the women including Sally, Tracy, Gemma, Abbie, Gail, Maria and poor Izzy for smoking cannabis for pain relief for her disability. Of course every back street in a northern town is full of ex prisoners ( not ). Representative of society ? No.

I haven't watched CStreet since the late 80's when it really was worth watching. I want escapism not a social agenda and ludicrous storylines. But all the soaps have sunk the same way, competing for the lowest common denominator.

There’s been a few characters over the years I couldn’t stand watching - mostly because they were so nasty or villainous.

Alan Bradley was one - I’ve lost count how many years it is since he came and went.
Then there was that awful drug-dealer, Jez (?) who got a teenage Leanne and Steve McDonald into trouble I couldn’t bear to look at his sneering face - or that nasty Pat Phelan.
And the horrid “smooth operator” who married Gail and tried to kill a few Street residents after he’d conned several old folk out of their homes and savings with dodgy “financial advice”

Actually, when I think about it, there’s always been a villain or two in the cast of Corrie and lots of storylines which reflected some of the worst bits of human nature as well as some the best bits. Putting all those events together in one single Street has often stretched credulity a bit!

Coro for me remains locked in the 1960's.
I first saw Coronation street around 1967 here in NZ .
We were about 6 years behind in those days.
It took ten years to actually ctach up but was staple viewing for mums for years.
I do remember Ena Sharples Minnie Cordwell Martha Longhurst
Elsie Tanner Jack Walker Annie Walker Ken Barlow Albert Tatlock Len Fairclough.
I nevr actually watched it but in those days we only had one channell so mum always watched it.
When I saw Coro again in the late 1980's I was astonished.
Gone was the gritty northern England life and in was a super colourful glitzy hollywood
series with hoards of young bimbo women.
What would Ena say? smile.png
