Do any Buzzers record their own music at home?

Back in 1983 the band I was in traveled to a 16 track recording studio out in the countryside and paid a fortune to record two tracks over 2 days.

How times have changed!

Now you can record your own music at home. The equipment costs a fraction of the price and you can have 32 tracks at your fingertips. The results are very good.

This is my home recording set up.

(The treadmill doesn't belong in there of course! My partner and I actually managed to get it in there ourselves from our car years ago, but we are older and more feeble now and can't move it!!! Even if we could, we have nowhere to put it, although the base does fold up. Jog while you jam!)

That's a neat set up.

Unfortunately I can't play any instruments.

Well I do have an old and treasured 4 track tape full of various members of the family caterwauling along to songs off the radio but that's about it. A great set up you have there Rain.

Rain,
Your home recording set up looks amazing, I truly wouldn’t have a clue how to work anything.

Hi Sandgrounder. No, the laptop is a new addition from Christmas day. We bought a digital drum package called eazydrummer2.It simulates a drum kit quite realistically and you can be quite creative. Before that we were using drum machines. I have just bought a drum kit but am not good enough yet to play on our songs.

I play the guitar and bass and sing on the recordings. we never plug directly into the computer for those. In fact up until now, all our recordings were made on the tiny little 8 track machine you can see just to the left of the red microphone lead in the picture. The big 32 track machine is new. We will now record on that, mix the tracks on that and then the final mix goes onto the lap top so we can upload it to Youtube.

The best investment of all has been the microphone we got last summer. It's a Rode NT2A. It has made a huge difference to the sound of my voice. On some of our older recordings it sounded muffled and dull but now it has a lot more presence. We have about 40 songs but we need to rerecord a lot of them with new vocals and new drums.

The whole hobby is a learning process smile.png

I used to record keyboard & voice onto a mobile phone via an adapter and some cables and an amplifier in the phone. Cheap as chips and gave others the choice to run with it and get it done seriously in a recording studio if they wanted.
Tried music creator and cubase but got too complicated for me. Bit of a dinosaur regarding technology.
