Speeding, some people never learn ! Personally I think the penalty is far too lenient. ! ,
What kind of penalty do you think would definitely deter people from putting their foot down,
Risking lives, surely there is some detarant, a biger fine, prison, or take third license away. ! ?

I commute daily. Some of the things I’ve seen are insane. Like you said. These fools are endangering others. Stiffer fines would be a deterrent I feel. Good topic.

What is the penalty for speeding where you live?

The penalties in the U.K. are stiff enough to make me keep an eye on my speed - I've never had a speeding ticket yet, but I don't want to risk getting one!
I can't afford to fork out 175% of my weekly income for a Band C fine - and if I got 2 Band C speeding convictions with 6 points for each, that's enough to be disqualified from driving for up to 3 months.

roughly 7mph over the limit will get you a fine of about £380 + 2 point
13 " " " " " " " " " " £850 + 3 "

35 " " " " " " " " " £1500 + between 3 to 7 months in prison and the possibility that you will have to take the driving course again at a cost of around £500

I got my one and only speeding ticket about 10 years ago, having triggered a speed camera.

I was travelling at 34mph in a thirty limit. No excuses, just a lapse. I got the choice of a £75 fine and three points on my licence or to pay £75 to go on a one day speed awareness course and no points. I chose the latter and found it eye opening, especially some of the gruesome footage designed to shock.

One guy on the course, a lorry driver, was completely cynical about it all and eventually he was sent home for being disruptive. Had to smile though as the course organiser said he would now get a £75 fine and three points as well as the £75 he had wasted on the course.

A perfect martini should be made by filling a glass with gin, then waving it in the general direction of Italy.

Never argue with an idiot......they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Other side of the coin. Do you think that there should be minimum / recommended speed limit on motorways, dual carriage ways and major roads? Frustration is IMO one of the root causes of accidents. People " tootling" ! Ignoring queues of traffic building up behind them. One major headache in my part of the world is agricultural vehicles, who should pull into a LayBy and let the traffic pass, but often reluctant to do so

I think that there should be a tolerance of 10% on speed. Exceed that and off to the speed awareness course you go. Having been on one, I found it a sobering wake up, of example hitting a child could make the difference between life and death! I M O use of mobile phones is much more serious an offence. And we all see them every day on the roads. But the law has to define, somewhere , what is safe, and what is dangerous. For me, the loss of my car would be catastrophic. Since my course, I now observe the required speed limit.

There is 'but' it's not a rule but a guideline,
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) issued revised speed enforcement policy guidance in 2013.
It suggests that enforcement will normally occur when a driver exceeds the speed limit by a particular margin.

Makes so much more sense and is far safer to adhere to the limits rather than worrying about margins

A while ago it was decided that speeding was the major cause of accidents.
As a result speed cameras proliferated and traffic cops diminished.
I drive a lot of miles per year, I see very little speeding.
I do see a lot of poor and dangerous driving.
Poor lane discipline.
Use of mobiles.
Road rage.
Tailgating.
Cameras do not pick those up.

Just a crazy idea.
Not as a punishment but as a deterrent, why not fit on the rear of every car a sign that shows the speed that the car is traveling and if you see a car doing way over the speed limit you could take a picture and post it on face book.
