It’s now looking more than likely that the free TV licence for the over 75s to go within the next two years
Do you agree with this.

Well, as I am over seventy-five I think the free TV licence should be maintained. If I have to pay for the licence then I will have to go carol singing all year round.:(

I agree, go back to when Pensioners paid £10 per year, not long age. I would pay that. That may not please everyone ?
I have been taxed since I was young man, & still paying it......

I can see why it’s going to end as many people are now living well.beyond 75
However if you’re on the basic state pension and housebound the TV could be your only form of entertainment your only company.
Wouldn’t it be preferable if pensioners on the basic state pension or receiving other state help qualify for a free TV licence this way it would avoid the need for a means tests.

I find this quite amusing and darkly ludicrous at the same time, we have no TV licenses for our terrestrial TV broadcasts, what we call "FREEVIEW" they were dropped in 1974 under the Labor Government of Gough Whitlam. Our government broadcaster is funded out of consolidated revenue and profits from their commercial business operation, though the current Conservative Government is trying to change that by selling them off to the private sector. Mostly because the ABC is seen as left leaning and does stories the Government finds embarrassing or unable to influence.

What in the world is a TV license, is it what amounts to another tax? We don't have a thing like that here in the US I think. I know when we were a colony, there used to be a tax on how many door you had in your house, I know that was strange when I heard that. That's why there were a number of open doorways/arches in colonial houses and no closets.

Yes, it should be scrapped. Pensioners get enough concessions as it is.
